The Perfect Man part 2....

I must have changed my outfit 10 times that evening as I prepared to go out on my big date with Mr. Perfect. Finally, I settled on a brown and red fitted dress that made me look like I had just stepped out of a recent copy of Essence Magazine. I took longer than usual with my makeup and was unbelievably nervous to go on a first date, but hey you only live once...right? I took one final glance in the mirror and was out the door;

His shiny black beamer was sitting outside of my apartment building, I did my best not to smile to hard as I approached his car. When I got in he gave me a soft kiss on my cheek and told me I looked great. Old school r&b played softly in the background and the car smelled of his cologne, which was the best thing I had ever smelled-ever.

Soon we were at the front doors of BLT Steak and by this time I had already planned out our entire future, including our 3 kids names, the 4 story house in the Hamptons, and the wedding in the country (whatttt? you would to). After we were seated I was silently thanking God for finally sending me the man of my dreams, it had taken 23 years! I couldn't help but admire his features as he was talking to me about his company, this man was beautiful. His skin had to be absolutely flawless and I swear his teeth glistened everytime he opened his mouth. I managed to tell him about my job and family, although I can't recall what I told him excactly because I was to busy deciding if we should have a house in Conneticut or be trendy and get something in SOHO.

I was quickly brought back to reality when I saw a man approaching our table, this guy was incredibly handsome as well (was this my night or what?). He smiled at me and said hello as he tapped my date on the shoulder. My date looked like he had just saw a ghost when he looked up and saw this fine looking denzel man staring down at him. Confused, I listened intensely to their somewhat strained conversation which went something like this;

My Date: Hi (in a whisper) what um, what uh are you doing here

The guy: I'm here -with a client of mine, what exactly are you doing here?

My Date: I'm here with a friend-having a nice quiet evening.

The guy: Hmmm...I see. We should talk later

My Date: Uh. yea man we should

The guy: mmmmhmmm

I was waiting to be introduced, but the guy walked away visibly upset. "Who was that," I asked halfway smiling and halfway upset. After an eternity of silence, he took a sip of champagne and replied..."my EX..."

So I guess it wasn't my night after all, and the dream of our 3 kids, house in the hamptons, and wedding in the country quickly vanished.

***Note to self: in the future do a background check before I go on anymore dates.****

The Perfect Man?

I couldn't help but giggle to myself as I listened to my friends complain about not being able to find the "perfect man." Really is there any such thing? We sat around the table at P.F. Changs as everyone went around sharing their thoughts on what the perfect man should be. "A fine educated brother, with no kids, no baggage, well traveled, and with a great job..." is what the majority of the ladies at the table had said. As the conversation continued, my mind drifted to a sunny day this past August, when I had met "him," what some might consider the perfect man;

As usual I was running to the 7 train with a million bags in my hand, doing my best to make it on time to an 8:30 a.m. meeting at work. I was flustered, hot, and frustrated with the millions of people in the subway on that Friday morning. My purple dress seemed to be clinging to me, and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why my hair wouldn't stay out of my face. Finally, the 7 train came to a stop and I begin to make my way to work. As I was crossing the street to enter my building, I felt a soft tap on my shoulder. Annoyed, I turned around to tell whoever the hell was trying to sell me something that I didn't want it. To my surprise, I looked up to find a tall, handsome, dark skinned brother, staring down at me. I was baffled and thought maybe he was lost and needed directions. Surely, he wasn't trying to approach me at 8:30 in the morning, with my hair in my face, and my dress getting more wrinkled by the second. "I'm sorry to bother you, but you are gorgeous", he said. Confused, I simply said, "Thank you" and kept walking. "Wait a second, "he said,"take my card and give me a call sometime, I'd really like to get to know you. " I took the card, but told him I had a boyfriend and to have a nice day.

For the rest of that day and all weekend, I kicked myself every time I thought about me telling him I had a boyfriend. Why had I told him that???? Dammit! However, I couldn't get him or the possibility of what "we" could be off of my mind, so I took out the card he had given me and dialed his office number. The receptionist answered and put me right through. Our convo went something like this;

Me: Hi, um, sorry to bother you. Its the woman you stopped on Friday on xxx avenue...i had on the purple dress.
Him: Wow, I'm happy you called, but have to say I'm surprised to hear from you.
Me: Well actually I was calling to apologize for being rude and walking away like that. You approached me like a gentleman, and I appreciate that.
Him: Of course, just one question, what happen to the boyfriend?
Me: Yeah, sorry about that...I'm just..well I'm really just getting out of a relationship..so I'm used to that being my first response and um well yeah sorry again.
Him: I understand.....

He went on to tell me a little bit about himself, he had graduated from an Ivy League School, had his own successful business (which is grossing around 1 million dollars a year) and he was well accomplished at 28 years old. dammmmmmmmmmmn...(was my first thought..and it would be yours to). We agreed to meet up a few nights later and go out for drinks and dinner.

The night we went on our first date was like something out of a movie...he absolutely BLEW MY MIND...

Stay tuned for part 2....

Three's a crowd?

THREE TO MANY?
I absolutely adore my best friend- she is a great person who only deserves the best in all that life has to offer. Of course like any good bff, I get extremely mad when she dates guys who are no where near her level. So, when she told me she was dating a lawyer-I couldn't have been any happier for her-until I met him that is......

It all began a few weeks ago when she came to nyc for a work event that she was the head of-I went to support her and met her "boo" for the first time. He was ok looking, dressed nicely, and tall enough...I had no complaints. He greets me with a hell0-and says,"oh so you the bff." I give him a fake smile and say yes as I search the room for something to drink. Dammit, I thought to myself, he's said three words and I already don't like him. (it was an instinct-i could tell he was up to NO good.)I shake it off to go in the room where the event is being held to find some seats for myself and my sorority sister whose also coming. He continues to try and hold small talk with me-making cocky comments about how my bff is his "soul mate," (puhleaseeeeeee) mind you he's known her for all of three minutes and he's already declaring his love for the girl. Finally, as if on cue my soror comes into the event to rescuse me from this, shall I say clown.......after what seems like eternity the event is finally over and my bff, soror, and I decide to grab something to eat-the boo on the other hand decides to go meet up with his boys. I couldn't have been anymore thrilled.

The next day the bff and I have a great time around the city and find ourselves at 40/40 to have some drinks and kick it after a long work week-I was happy just to be out having a good time with the girls..UNTIL the clown shows up. My bff was in shock-she had told him where she was going, but had no idea that he would follow her there on a night out with the girls. By this time-I was growing to dislike him more and more..so I greeted him with a, "hi stalker." (I know thats mean-but damn following us to the club..really?)

Anyway, just as I suspected this dude was NO good! Everytime my friend turned her back, went to the bathroom, or disappeared, he was getting other girls numbers-in their face as if my bff didn't even exsist. So all night I watched as this clown truly PLAYED my friend-and I didn't like it. His boys kept high-fiving each other, laughing everytime he was in another girls face.Of course I caught a SERIOUS attitude-my bff played it cool. Whatever.I later found out that he told her-that "having a bff like her-is the reason why good girls like you stay single." Yes he told her this.Unbelievable....I just think she could do better.

Am I being to dramatic?

Black men never fail to amaze me-especially in this city......As usual -i was doing my best today to make the train as I heard the announcer say, "watch out for the closing doors." Dag-I thought to myself. All I wanted to do was make it home by 8-to sit in my living room, eat my dinner, and watch Ugly Betty (okay I know that sounds really bad, but I seriously had a long day). Fortunately for me-it wasn't even two minutes later until another train pulled up. I'm pretty sure I yelled, "Thank God" out loud-because the lady next to me was looking at me like I was completely insane.

After being nearly beat up by people trying to get on and off the train, I finally found a seat.The lady sitting next to me was a pretty young white woman, she couldn't have been any older than 25. She was busily typing away on her apple notebook-like she had a message to get out to Bush himself. I shook my head, put my head back, and shut my eyes. I couldn't relax because I felt someone's eyes on me-staring at me. I opened my eyes to find a 30 something handsome dark skinned African man gazing in awe not at me-but at the white girl sitting next to me (ha-talk about a humbling moment). He looked her up and down and watched her every move. It's almost as if she knew he was watching, because she took out whatever was holding her hair up and began to shake her long brown hair with her eyes closed. She ran her fingers through it, rolled her neck, and then proceeded to take out her iPhone.I -on the other hand was watching like you've got to be kidding me....chick please!! (and no I wasn't hating..she was doing way to much.)

She never gave the man staring at her eye contact, but instead busied herself on her iPhone, constantly checking her brown leather bag, and crossing and uncrossing her legs. He continued to smile at her-while she continued to put on a show for him.When we approached 96th street- she quickly stood up (of course shaking her hair one last time) and walked off with the rest of the white people....never giving him the time of day. He turned around to look out the window as she walked down the platform-even stretching his neck to get a view. Finally-she was gone. He did this weird shrug thing with his shoulders and continued to read his book entitled; "The Autobiography of Malcolm X".Ironic right?

No not really....
