Foreva-eva

That video bugged me out yesterday...I mean really bugged me out.

It's funny when you're young you never think that in life you might end up a single woman...forever...right? Whether we want to admit it or not, the majority of young women grow up believing that eventually they will get married, have a family, and settle down. There's someone out there for us..there's true love...there's a man who will sweep us off of our feet, well at least that's what we all want to believe.

I put on a tough exterior most of the time, but deep down inside I do hope to find someone who I can spend the rest of my life with, who will be my companion, and my best accessory [cue Michelle Obama here] and I say that in a loving way. Watching that video got me to thinking how different white women and black women have it when it comes to men. Almost 45% of black women are single...single meaning they've never BEEN married. It sounds insane, but it is indeed a fact.

If you would have told me that just 2 years ago, I would have laughed. However, the older I get, it seems to be more of reality that black women really are single for the most part. From the most educated black women running a corporation to the single mom living in an urban community..millions of black women are SINGLE..and it's sad.

I hate to admit this in black and white, but I pay close attention now to the left hand..the finger ring..the sign that an individual is committed. I'm not exaggerating when I say damn near every white woman over 25 at my job has a ring on their finger. Meanwhile the many beautiful black woman who I work with have nothing on there ring finger, just bags under their eyes, a heavy heart, and fierce job title.

Is that what I have to look forward to? A bare ring finer, sleepless nights, and a corner office with a window? I sure hope not.

7 years from now when those same white women at your job are going through a divorce truss their bags will be even bigger, and their hearts heavier...not to mention that oftentimes they won't have that corner office or fierce job title...
